Our region benefits from the services of 16 visiting specialists under an Australian Government initiative designed to improve access to specialist medical services in rural and remote Australia. The Medical Specialist Outreach Assistance Program (MSOAP) and the Indigenous Specialist Outreach Assistance Program (ISOAP) offer financial assistance to specialists to cover some of the costs associated with delivering outreach services, such as travel, accommodation and consulting room hire costs. As well as administering the program locally, SGPN also works closely with the Rural Doctors Network to identify required specialist services for our region and where possible offers professional development opportunities to local general practitioners during specialist visits. |
