SGPN coordinates a calendar of accredited training and learning opportunities for GPs and practice staff. GPs are required to complete ongoing education in order to maintain their registration and SGPN focuses on making this process as simple as possible by arranging regular education activities throughout the region. We identify relevant topics with the assistance of local GPs and utilise best practice methods of education delivery, ensuring that CPD points are available for each educational activity we offer. GPs must obtain 130 CPD (Continuing Professional Development) points within a triennium - currently 2008-10. So we offer a range of category 1 (40 points) and category 2 (3 points) events on topics of interest for GPs in our region, all the while undertaking continuous assessment of current, new and emerging needs in GP education. Similar dedication is applied to coordinating regular workshops and development days for the region’s practice nurses, managers and receptionists. The SGPN annual conference is an opportunity for both GPs and practice staff to learn about the latest trends in clinical treatments and business management against a backdrop of peer discussion about the bigger picture issues facing the health industry. |
